Leaf Publications, which develops and operates the sake media site "Sake World" and the sake NFT marketplace "Sake World NFT," as well as develops and sells the assemblage sake "Assemblage Club," has taken over the business of Makino Shuzo Honten, a sake brewery that was founded 280 years ago in Tomata-gun, Okayama Prefecture. The aim is to strengthen the manufacturing capabilities of custom-made sake by grouping sake breweries such as those that produce sake.

Background of business succession

"Sake is a part of Japan's world-class fermentation culture, and at the same time, it is an important cultural heritage that has been deeply connected to the spirituality of the Japanese people since the introduction of rice cultivation, through religious rites, festivals, and ceremonies. In recent years, domestic consumption has stagnated due to a trend away from alcohol, and the number of sake breweries has been steadily decreasing. In order to preserve this wonderful sake culture for future generations and build a future where it will continue to develop even further, our company has set the mission of 'maximizing the value of SAKE' and has developed its sake business.

One of our sake businesses is a project to create sake blends (assemblage). The first original sake produced in this project, "Assemblage Club," has been highly praised by luxury hotels, restaurants, and international tastings. We have been providing a manufacturing and sales service for custom-made sake blends for food and beverage companies, and have seen an increase in inquiries and orders in recent years, demonstrating a definite need for custom-made sake.

Therefore, in order to respond to the expected increase in orders for custom-made sake in the future and to be able to flexibly handle custom-made sake production, we have decided to take over the business of Makino Shuzo Honten. A long-established sake brewery founded in 1736. Its representative brand is "Isuzu." It sells "Isuzu Nigori Sake," made with "Hikari Shinseiki," a local rice grown in Kagamino Town, using traditional techniques that make the most of the flavor and aroma of raw rice.
In addition to a license to produce sake, the company also holds a license to produce single-distilled shochu, and also produces shochu made from rice, buckwheat, and sweet potatoes.
