From Oike Street, head south along Kiyamachi Street.Western-style izakaya Mizuta Shokudo is where you'll want to stop by and enjoy some food and drinks. The shop is run by the owner, Takashi Mizuta. In addition to Italian and Western restaurants, he worked at Sunny and in the soup in the Ace cafe chain for 10 years before becoming independent. This opened in November 2022.In the past, the restaurant had focused on dishes aimed at women and the younger generation, but now they have carefully developed their lineup. ``At the end of the day, I'm happy with some thoughtful food and drinks.'' They prepare menus for adults who feel that way.
Here are a number of dishes that are familiar to us, but for some reason we can't stop eating them with chopsticks.Grilled pork shoulder loin is cooked at a low temperature to make it moist and tender. It costs 800 yen.The sweet sauce brings out the strong flavor of the meat.
Fried tandoori chicken 800 yen.Fried chicken thighs marinated in yogurt and spices are perfect for pairing with alcohol.
The squid ink sausage costs 800 yen and shows Mr. Mizuta's detailed work.By mixing finely chopped Japanese squid into the dough, it becomes a strangely delicious dish that tastes like squid even though it is sausage.
The drink menu includes standard drinks such as draft beer, wine, and shochu, but the sake is priced at 500 yen per glass and 1 yen per cup.The lineup on the day of the interview was [Jinya Junmai Dry] (Fukushima, Ariga Jozo), [Sakaya Hachibei Yamada Nishiki Junmai Nama Genshu] (Mie, Motosaka Sake Brewery), and [Yamawa Special Junmai Kuranohana] (Miyagi, We have a well-balanced selection of 1200 brands: ``Vivid Junmai Ginjo Unfiltered Nama Genshu (Blue, Green)'' (Hakurei Sake Brewery, Kyoto), including dry and fresh Nama sake that go well with meals.Mr. Mizuta's style is not to prepare a menu with flavors and brands listed, but rather to have guests choose what they like through conversation.
Mizuta has full trust in the sake store [SiZUK], which opened in November 2022 near Kyoto Station. He regularly visits this store, which is known not only for its selection of famous sake from around the region, but also for its stylish interior and the fact that it is served in a kakuuchi style, to stock up on sake that goes well with the food.
Mizuta Shokudo, located on the second floor of the building, has only 2 seats at an L-shaped counter.Mizuta says with a smile, ``It's like everyone is coming to her kitchen at home.''When she explains about the sake she has lined up at the counter, she sometimes hears people from other seats saying, ``I'd like the same thing here, too.'' The friendly atmosphere is also appealing. The sake is served in 10-go bottles, so turnover is quick.Next time I visit, I'm looking forward to not only enjoying the food but also discovering new brands.
