Asama Sake Brewery
The majestic Mt. Asama straddles Gunma and Nagano prefectures. Asama Sake Brewery is located in Naganohara, a plateau that spreads out at the foothills to the north. There are also famous tourist spots nearby, such as the famous hot springs, Kusatsu Onsen and Yamba Dam. The Asama Sake Brewery Tourism Center, located next to the sake brewery, serves as its gateway, welcoming not only locals but also many tourists from all over the country. You can sample many of Asama Sake Brewery's famous sakes, and the sake and sweets made from sake lees are also popular.
In 2011 (Heisei 23), we started growing rice in our own fields with the aim of producing ``true local sake.'' Carefully selected from a variety of varieties, the ``improved Shinko'' variety is cultivated to suit the land of Naganohara.
In winter in Naganohara, a cold, dry, strong wind called ``Joshu no Karakkaze'' blows. The representative brand, Higen, is said to have a unique astringency and smooth taste due to this harshly cold climate. The sake brewery is made with great care based on the concept of ``a sake brewery that brings the scenery of the foothills of Mt. Asama to everyone.''
