The 7rd anniversary event of Kyoto's long-established club [WORLD KYOTO] was held every day from July 12th to July 7th. On the final day of the event on July 20th, the club scene was filled with sake. A Kyoto sake brewer DJed and played the music himself, livening up the venue with sake and music. Here is a report on the collaborative event with the sake media site [Sake World].

In recent years, the number of DJ booths being added to sake events has been increasing.
Looking back in history, the combination of alcohol and music dates back more than 3000 years. Shinto existed before Buddhism, and there was the idea of "kamijin wa raku" (harmony between gods and humans), where people offer sake and music to the gods and drink with them. It is said that the gods gain power when they see "people having fun," so the combination of alcohol and music is a perfect match.

The brewer will be the DJ and play the music himself for fun!

The purpose of this event is for the sake breweries to take on the role of hosts rather than DJs, as in a tea ceremony. As the event started at 19pm, customers arrived one after another. The event concluded with the sake breweries sharing the idea of "creating a space where those who enjoy themselves with alcohol win."

The first person to appear was Yosuke Haba, President and CEO of Tamanohikari Sake Brewery Co., Ltd.
"This will be a different kind of event than usual! I'm looking forward to it." Although he has no experience as a DJ, he enjoyed the experience and the sounds.

Gekkeikan Co., Ltd. Managing Director and Deputy General Manager of Sales Okura Yasuharu said with a laugh, "I don't have any intention of DJing!" but once he stood in the DJ booth he got serious.

Masuda Junichi, President and CEO of Masuda Tokubei Shoten Co., Ltd. "I have no experience as a DJ, but I have no choice but to do it! Today I have chosen my favorite songs!" he said, showing his enthusiasm as he chose the songs himself.

"It was amazing to say the least." Many people were there with cameras, and it was definitely the most popular event.

Also in attendance were Sasaki Akira, CEO of Sasaki Sake Brewery Co., Ltd., and Matsui Jiemon, President and CEO of Matsui Sake Brewery Co., Ltd., who were unable to participate as DJs this time.
A space that transcends the boundaries of the brewery and connects with music and sake. The sight of not only Japanese people but also foreign tourists drinking sake at a club is what this event was aiming for.

Liven up the nightlife scene with sake

The drinks on offer included sake from each brewery and sake cocktails to add a touch of elegance to the event.
From the left, Tamanohikari Tebako: A cocktail made with Tamanohikari's aged sake and cacao, giving it a smoked aroma. Masuda Dini: A SAKE Dini made with Tsuki no Katsura Gonso Gorizake and gin. Nadeshiko Kazuki: The tropical aroma of banana comes from the Japanese aroma of shiso and peach. The fresh peach aroma comes from Gekkeikan Kazuki's "Peach".

"It was so much fun! The cocoa-flavored cocktail that we made using our aged liquor was very popular for its smoky flavor," said Haba (left).

Kobayashi (right) of WORLD KYOTO spoke enthusiastically, saying, "Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we haven't been able to hold many large events. WORLD KYOTO is working towards the goal of 'livening up Japan's nightlife scene from Kyoto,' so we were able to create an event to aim for on our final day. We would like to continue this new initiative combining sake and music in the future."

Customers commented, "It was so refreshing to have sake at the club! The sake brewery was so lively, it gave us energy too."

Many foreign tourists visit Kyoto. At clubs, there is a lot of champagne, wine, and tequila, but there is still not much sake. However, on this particular day, it was impressive to see people naturally drinking sake from shot glasses. Many people were enjoying not only the drinks and music, but also the atmosphere. It was clear that people were having fun. I would be happy if this great power could lead to new value for sake in the night scene. I felt that the day when people would say, "Apparently, sake is drunk at clubs in Kyoto" is fast approaching.
